Most music streaming services offer family plans so that it’s cheaper for families to subscribe to that service together instead of paying for each individual subscription. There was no Tidal family plan at launch as the company was only pushing individual subscriptions but as it struggles to gain footing in the hotly contested music streaming market it’s unsurprising to see Tidal come out with a family plan of its own.
The Tidal family plan is available for both Premium and HiFi lossless streaming tiers, it’s not going to be a flat rate, Tidal will charge subscribers for each new account that’s registered under the primary account.
For each new person that’s tied to the primary account only half of the subscription cost has to be paid. For example a subscription to Tidal Premium costs $9.99 so that primary user will pay that, for every other user tied to that account the monthly subscription fee will be $4.99.
It’s not that different from the family plans offered by the likes of Rdio and Spotify, on the other hand Spotify seems to be working on offering cheaper family plans, which would only exacerbate Tidal’s woes.
Up to four accounts can be added to a Tidal family plan in addition to the primary account so that’s five people, while Apple Music offers its family plan for a flat rate of $15 per month and allows six people to stream music, the Tidal family plan is certainly not the cheapest option out there.
