whatsapp-logo-newLast year Facebook announced that they would be acquiring WhatsApp for a whopping $19 billion. As it stands both services exist separate of each other, but if the rumors are to be believed, it seems that WhatsApp could slowly be gaining some of Facebook’s features in a future update.

According to reports from WhatsApp beta tester Ilhan Pektas and ADSLZone (via TalkAndroid), WhatsApp could gain features such as “Like” and “Mark as unread” in a future update. The Like feature is interesting although we’re not sure at this point in time how it will work. Perhaps it will act in a similar manner as the thumbs up button on Facebook Messenger.

This will allow users to send a quick and short reply to simple questions without having to type it out. It could also be implemented in group chats where photos are shared and group chat members can “Like” it, which once again does away with the need to type out a comment if it isn’t necessary.

The “Mark as unread” feature is interesting since this basically allows users to avoid the dreaded blue ticks to indicate a message has been read. However given that the blue ticks feature can be disabled, we’re not sure if this feature is even necessary, but given that this is a rumored feature for now, do take it with a grain of salt. In any case what do you guys make of these potential features that may or may not be coming to WhatsApp in the future?
