iphone 6_2There has been a bit of back and forth with regards to the rumors as to whether an iPhone 6c will be launched this year. The most recent rumor is courtesy of @evleaks who claims that it will launch alongside the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. However according to ad tracking service Fiksu, the latest information has cast some doubt on that possibility.

Fiksu has recently discovered two new iPhone identifiers in it dataset for July. The identifiers are the “iphone8,1” and the “iphone8,2”. This is in line with Apple’s identifiers are the current-gen iPhones are the “iphone7,1” and “iphone7,2”, so presumably the new identifiers are talking about the iPhone 6s and the larger iPhone 6s Plus.

What’s interesting is that they only picked up on these two identifiers, meaning that there are two iPhones instead of three, with the third being the rumored 4-inch iPhone 6c. Like we said this kind of corroborates what we’ve been hearing, and that is plans for the device’s launch this year has been scrapped.

Instead what we have heard is that it could launch next year. In any case these identifiers aren’t necessarily a guarantee but it does make a pretty compelling argument. There is still no official word on when the new iPhones will be launched, but last we heard it could see a 9th of September launch date.
