adobe_project_rigelA couple of years ago Adobe launched Photoshop Touch. This was an app designed for mobile phones that would bring some of Photoshop’s photo editing tools to smartphones and tablets. However earlier this year, Adobe basically killed off the app in which they stated that they would be discontinuing it.

Now the good news is that if you liked Photoshop Touch and what it could do for your photos, you might be interested to learn that Adobe has a new mobile editor on its way which is currently dubbed as Project Rigel, and the company expects that they will officially debut the app in October at its Max Conference.

As you can see in the screenshot above, right off the bat Project Rigel looks very different from its predecessor. Speaking to the folks at CNET, Adobe’s senior product manager for digital imaging Manu Anand described the app as, “Project Rigel is designed and built in a way that serves the needs of professionals familiar with retouching tools on the desktop, but more so for people not familiar with Photoshop tools like content-aware fill or spot healing It democratizes them and makes them easier to use.”

The app is also expected to be free, but it is expected to be a part of the desktop version of Photoshop that will see users pay a subscription $10 a month for access to Photoshop or Lightroom, or $50 a month to access Adobe’s full suite of software. In any case we expect more details will be revealed in October, so check back with us then for more updates.
