airbus patentGetting from New York to London takes roughly 7 hours. Back in the day when the mach 2 Concorde was still flying, such a trip would take a relatively speedy 3.5 hours, about half the time a regular plane takes. However if the folks at Airbus have their way, that time could further reduced to as much as an hour.

This is according to a recent trademark that Airbus had filed that describes a new type of plane, a hypersonic jet basically, that will allow passengers to fly from New York to London in just an hour. This is obviously a huge improvement over the mach 2 Concorde which was already widely considered to be pretty fast back when it used to operate.

In addition to being able to theoretically make trips to London in an hour, the patent also seems to suggest that flights like Paris to San Francisco, or even Tokyo to Los Angeles could take as little as three hours. That being said, we can’t imagine how expensive such a flight would cost given how much it used to cost to fly in a Concorde.

In any case this is merely a patent and there’s no indication to suggest that Airbus is indeed building such a transportation system. However we suppose as technology advances it only makes sense that our planes start getting faster as well, but until then we suggest you not hold your breath.
