Microsoft is currently in the process of remastering the first Gears of War title for Xbox One and while it won’t be remastering all of the previous titles for the console Xbox One owners will still be able to play them. Not too long ago Microsoft announced that backwards compatibility is coming to Xbox One and this feature will enable owners of this console to play previous Gears of War titles even though they haven’t been remastered.

Microsoft announced today that all those who purchase Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or the Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle will be able to unlock the entire Gears collection through backwards compatibility on Xbox One.

Playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live from August 21st through December 31st will provide access to Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment in backwards compatibility when the feature launches this fall.

The company also pointed out that all Gears of War titles will be supported on backwards compatibility when it launches publicly this fall, this means that if players currently own the aforementioned titles on Xbox 360 they’ll be able to play them on the Xbox One and even take advantage of some next-gen features which include Game DVR, Snap, screenshots and more.

All previously-saved files, game add-ons and achievements can be brought over and it will be possible to play with friends using Xbox Live no matter what Xbox console they’re on.
