Previously Amazon Prime members were able to share two-day free shipping, which is one of the major selling points of the $99 Prime program, with four other adults but Amazon has now made some changes to the way members can share this privilege with other adults. Free two-day Amazon Prime shipping can now only be shared with just one other adult, thus effectively ruling out the practice of sharing it with friends.
Amazon’s new policy says that only one other adult can be added to a Prime account and the primary account holder has to have no qualms with the other adult having access to their credit or debit card that’s on file for making purchases on Amazon.
The other adult can add their own debit or credit card to the account but the payment method will be visible to both people who share a Prime account, Amazon has made this a mandatory requirement for sharing Prime accounts.
Even though previously the company required all adults on a Prime account to have the same shipping address the restriction was rarely enforced. This latest move shows that Amazon wants Prime sharing to be limited to two partners or within the family instead of being shared with multiple friends.
This change doesn’t appear to be retroactive which means you and the other four adults on your account having nothing to worry about if sharing was set up before today.
Despite this change Prime members can still add four children to their account and they won’t even need dedicated Amazon accounts to stream content using Prime Instant Video.
