iPad-air-review-5It’s no secret that in terms of sales, the iPad isn’t doing so well. While it is still the leading tablet amongst consumers, the fact that consumers refresh their tablets less frequently than smartphones no doubt has had a huge impact on sales. So much so that according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple is rethinking their strategy.

The new strategy, according to them, is to turn to the enterprise. The report claims that Apple is working with about 40 tech companies who specialize in creating apps designed for the workplace, such as accounting apps and apps designed for sales presentations. The idea is to make the iPad more appealing to enterprise customers in hopes that they will start using the tablet more for work.

This is no doubt an interesting shift as Apple has typically been seen as a more consumer-focused company, versus an enterprise one. However given that Apple and IBM announced a partnership last year with the fruits of their labor resulting in a suite of enterprise apps, we suppose it does not come as a surprise.

While Apple has declined to comment on the report of its new alleged partnerships, they said that their partners “are developing iOS solutions across industries that will empower employees and usher in a new era of productivity.” It will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially in the face of the rumored iPad Pro’s launch which seems more targeted towards working professionals.
