Drone Aircraft

Effective from August 15th, China is going to restrict exports of few drones and supercomputers. The country is concerned about the technology going into wrong hands and could be advantageous for the “illegal elements”, which is hinted towards a rebellion group based in western China’s Xinjiang province.

China is a pioneer in selling drones to countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and many other developing countries. China based DJI is the world leader in manufacturing consumer drones, although the restrictions have only been inflicted on the military-scale aircraft and not the small drones. The restricted drones are the ones that can fly for more than a hour on high altitudes.

In the year 2013, answering the Associated Press, Ministry of Defense spokesperson Yang Yujun said, “Drones are a new high-tech form of weaponry employed and used by many militaries around the world. China’s armed forces are developing weaponry and equipment for the purpose of upholding territorial integrity, national security and world peace. It will pose no threat to any country.”

The drone manufacturing companies would be required to provide the copies of export contracts along with documents showing the technical specifications of the products, and also the motive of purchase by the consumer. After the submission of the documents, companies will be notified about their application approval within 45 working days, as directed by the Ministry of Commerce.
