verizon sign

Earlier this month Verizon announced that it is also doing away with conventional service contracts, the announcement was well received but it did end up confusing existing contract customers since the carrier didn’t really explain what its latest move meant for them. Verizon has realized this mistake and has now published a new blog post which details precisely what existing contract customers will be able to do and not do following its decision to eliminate service contracts.

All existing contract customers on Verizon will be able to renew their contracts and receive phone upgrades at subsidized prices, basically this means that existing customers who are eligible for an upgrade will be able to purchase the new iPhone for $200 when it comes out next month.

The possibility exists though that over time Verizon may stop offering some smartphones to existing contract customers so that it can get them to switch to the new off-contract plans, but it doesn’t look like the carrier is taking this step immediately.

Verizon is allowing these customers to stay on their plans with no changes to the terms for as long as they want to, and they can even add new lines, but if they decide to switch to an off-contract plan they should realize that the move will be permanent and they will not be allowed to switch back.
