Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XV has been in the works for a while now, and we’re sure many are curious as to when the game will be released. In fact it was last year that we were treated to some gameplay footage, so it should be soon, right? The good news is that while it isn’t necessarily soon, we at least have a timeframe to look forward to.

Announced at PAX Prime, the game’s director Hajime Tabata has revealed that Final Fantasy XV will be released in 2016, or so we hope. According to Tabata, he stated that Square Enix will be holding a special event in March 2016 where the game’s release date will be revealed. We can only imagine that the release will probably be in the same year, otherwise that would just be mean!

Tabata also updated fans on the progress that they have made with the game, such as its various cameras and AI behavior, to the monster, combat, and user interface, which according to him were 30-80% complete, suggesting that there is still quite a lot of work left to be done. So far from what we can tell, the game looks amazing.

In the meantime if you’d like to check out more Final Fantasy XV footage, the folks at IGN have released a 5 minute clip of the game, so do check it out in the video above if you have some time to spare.
