google_ios_updateIf you have an Android phone with the latest Android OS installed on it, you can say “OK Google” in any app and it will launch Google Now. It’s a very nifty feature versus other systems such as Siri where you’d have to press and hold the home button. Now if you have an iOS device and would love the “OK Google” feature, you’re in luck.

Google has recently released an update for its iOS app and now with the updated app, users can say “OK Google” anywhere within the app to pull up the voice activated assistant. However this works only within the app itself, meaning if the Google app is closed, then it obviously won’t work.

Granted it’s not as convenient as having it integrated throughout the system, but we guess it’s close enough, especially if you’re a frequent user of Google’s app. Alternatively if you’d prefer that kind of system-wide integration, Siri has a built-in function that works the same. The only catch is that you are required to have your iOS device plugged into a charger in order to get it to work.

Apart from the addition of the “OK Google” hotword, other changes included in the update are more detailed local search results and the ability to copy and paste from anywhere in the app.
