faa-amazon-droneAs you might have heard, Amazon has plans to use drones to make nearby deliveries, and given how drones are able to skip traffic, it makes sense, not to mention it would be a lot faster as well. However a new bill that has been recently proposed could seriously hamper the efforts of drones being used in a commercial capacity.

The Senate Bill 142 basically will require drones that fly under 350 feet to get the permission of property owners that it flies over. This technically means that if the drone were to fly over a neighborhood, every house that it passes over will need to grant it permission to fly over its property.

Unsurprisingly there are some who have since criticized the bill, claiming that it will stunt the growth of the drone industry which is growing at a rather rapid pace at the moment. However according to State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, this issue isn’t so much about the growth of drones, but rather protecting the privacy of individuals.

According to the Senator, “Drones are a new and exciting technology with many potentially beneficial uses, but they should not be able to invade the privacy of our backyards and our private property without our permission.” This follows news from last month in which a man shot down a drone that he claimed was hovering over his backyard while his daughters were there.
