OS X Beta Hints At Split-Screen Support For The iPad Mini 4

ipad mini split screenOne of the features that Apple will be bringing to the table with iOS 9 is split-screen viewing. This has been a feature long-requested by many iPad users and thankfully it will be arriving in iOS 9. However Apple had previously suggested that only the iPad Air 2 would be able to use it due to its A8X processor, but now according to new info, it could be arriving on the iPad mini 4 as well.

This is thanks to the combined efforts of 9to5Mac and developer Hamza Sood. It seems that they were combing through the beta of OS X El Capitan and found that according to a resource file from Safari 9, it suggests that the iPad mini 4 could support the split-screen functionality of iOS 9 as well.

So what does this mean? Basically it seems to suggest that the iPad mini 4 will finally be getting a significant upgrade. If the A8X processor was what allowed the iPad Air 2 to support split-screen mode, then chances are the iPad mini 4 will have the same processor, if not better. This is versus last year’s model which basically introduced Touch ID and enabled Apple Pay, while keeping the same A7 processor found in 2013’s iPad mini.

This is also in line with earlier rumors suggesting that the next-gen iPad mini could very well share similar features as the iPad Air 2. In any case this is just speculation for now, but if you wanted to get a new iPad mini, perhaps you should hold off until the new models have been announced.
