Parrot showed off a very impressive connected infotainment system for vehicles at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2015 earlier this year, called the RNB6 it runs Android 5.0 Lollipop proper and features supported for both Android Auto and CarPlay. Parrot did say back then that RNB6 will be released around the summer but that’s not going to happen, the company has confirmed that the RNB6 is not going to be released as an aftermarket head unit.

RNB6 has very impressive features for a connected infotainment system, it comes with a high-resolution capacitive touchscreen display, voice control, driving assistance services and it’s even able to tap into on-board diagnostics to show the driver important technical information from the car.

Parrot says that its RNB6 infotainment system has been selected by “several automakers” who envision to integrate it into their next-generation models in 2016 and beyond. It goes on to say that “as of today there is no plan to sell RNB6 in aftermarket channels.”

The company says that one of the reasons behind this is that RNB6 embedded technologies require deep integration with car series and manufacturers, so those who have been waiting to take it for a spin will have to wait until the unnamed car manufacturers release new models with RNB6 integrated.

Sucks though, I was waiting for an aftermarket unit to install in my car, that’s not going to happen now.
