It has been a while since Plex sent out an update for its iOS application and today it has released one and boy what an update it is, Plex has actually released a brand new app for iPhones and iPads. The new app has been written from scratch and it brings some new features as well as improvements to the overall look and feel.

Plex for iOS is now available as a free download and it can be used as a remote control, it can even be used to send contents of a camera roll to any Plex player. It’s easy to upgrade to full-functionality, that can be done within the app itself, users can easily sign in using a Plex Pass enabled account.

A new chapters feature has been added to the app which allows users to quickly jump to a specific place in a movie based on the name of the scene, if the media file being played doesn’t have chapters the app will automatically fetch them from ChapterDb.

Rotten Tomatoes ratings will now be displayed in-app with reviews coming soon, the new Plex for iOS also features all of the new discovery features that are already available in the other apps such as the ability to browse similar movies, explore other movies with same director or actors and recommendations for movies that the user might like.

Plex’s new iOS app also has next-gen mobile sync technology which is much faster for incremental syncs and also supports partial sync, it says that the new sync technology is much more reliable than its predecessor and even lets users sync playlists.

The app is live now and available for download free through the App Store. It requires iOS 8.1 or higher and the very recent version of Plex Media Server.
