qualcomm snapdragonThe Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is expected to be the successor to the Snapdragon 810, which at the moment is unfortunately plagued by reports of it overheating. So the question is, when can we expect the Snapdragon 820 to finally make its way into a smartphone? Unfortunately it won’t be 2015.

This has apparently been confirmed by Qualcomm themselves during SIGGRAPH 2015 in which they stated that the first Snapdragon 820 devices are expected in the first half of 2016. This also means that rumors of the Sony Xperia Z5, which is said to run the Snapdragon 820, have just been proven false.

It also means that we might not expect to see it in Google’s Nexus devices this year either, although last we heard the LG Nexus is said to run on the Snapdragon 620 anyway, and chances are Huawei could turn to their own processors as well, so we guess that doesn’t really matter.

Interestingly enough this seems to line up with the rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S7 could feature the Snapdragon 820, which would be interesting as earlier this year, Samsung passed on the Snapdragon 810 for the Galaxy S6 and according to the rumored Galaxy Note 5 specs, the upcoming also does not appear to use Qualcomm’s technology.
