According to an earlier report, Blizzard expects that they should be able to release StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void by the end of 2015. While the expansion will conclude the StarCraft story, it isn’t your typical expansion. In fact it is being viewed as a standalone game where gamers won’t actually need StarCraft 2 in order to play it.

That being said, Blizzard will be introducing a bunch of new features to it and one of the features is Allied Commander, which thanks to a recent post by Blizzard is further detailed in a preview and a video. According to Blizzard, “In Allied Commanders, you play as one of the many heroic leaders in the StarCraft II universe. Each with an arsenal of various powers and abilities and a select group of unit types which you may use to compose your army. All of these tools make playing each commander a unique experience.”

This is basically a new style of gameplay in which gamers can undertake new and exciting objectives once they’ve completed the main missions and storyline and want something more. It will also see players team up with their friends to complete said objectives. It’s an interesting approach to the typical gameplay style one has come to associate with StarCraft, but it sounds promising.

Unfortunately a specific release date has yet to be confirmed or any announcement of a closed beta, but either way here’s hoping Blizzard can keep to their schedule and perhaps we will see its release by the end of the year.
