snapchatIn the past, it was just making sure that one does not make or receive any kind of calls on a mobile phone when one travels out of the country, unless it is a real emergency as the roaming charges alone are going to burn a really, really huge hole in your pocket. While there has been advancements made in this particular department over the years to make it more affordable, now we have to worry about roaming data charges that too, can cost quite a bomb. Using apps such as Snapchat do not help your cause, either, as it does take up quite a fair amount of your mobile data usage quota. Hence, Snapchat has come up with what they deem to be a data-saving “travel mode” that will target power users.

Whenever you enable this particular mode in the settings, snaps, stories and discovery content will load only when you tap them, as opposed to loading everything by default the moment the app is opened. Of course, other than Snapchat, if you are curious enough to find out whether the other apps on your device also take a bite out of your monthly data plan, Android device owners can head to the settings menu and pick data usage, where the option to set data limits as well as warn you of coming close to surpassing the quota would come in handy. This too, is a rough estimate, but I have found it to be a rather accurate one.

iPhone users can head on to settings and pick cellular, where they then scroll down to check out just how much data is consumed by the individual apps.
