Last month Sony’s mobile division made an interesting announcement in which they revealed that they had plans to enter the drone business. This is thanks to an investment that the company has made with another company called ZMP, and the result is a new company called Aerosense Inc.

For those who are wondering what the company has been up to, you’re in luck because it seems that videos of the company’s drones have been released. As you can see in the videos above and below, you can clearly see both Sony and ZMP’s markings on the devices. At the moment it appears that there have only been two drones that are in the works.

Starting with the AS-DTO1-E, this isn’t your typical commercial drone. In fact if anything it seems to resemble the kind of drones used by the military. Based on the video, it shows that the drone is able to take off and land vertically, kind of like a helicopter which means that it can be used in tight spaces. It is also able to carrying cargo of up to 10kg and will be able to travel at speeds of 170kmph for about two hours.

Next up is the MCO1-P which is your more typical commercial drone as it has been designed to resemble a quadcopter. It will come with Sony’s QX30 cameras on board, GPS, inertial navigation system, and will weigh 3kg. Unfortunately as these are merely prototypes, there’s no telling when Sony will release them, so for now drone enthusiasts will just have to contend themselves with the videos.
