This is apparently according to a report from Korea Times (via Sony Alpha Rumors) in which they interviewed Sony Korea’s manager Bae Ji-hoon, who was quoted as saying, “Sony will concentrate on full-frame cameras in the future. In the short run, we will target existing full-frame camera users and then attract those who use entry and mid-class models to upgrade their cameras in the long run, raising the popularity of full-frame cameras.”
As it stands, Sony actually has several full frame camera options available at the moment. This ranges from their DSLR lineup, to even mirrorless cameras like the Sony A7 series, and there’s even the Sony RX1 which was launched a few years ago and was the world’s first full frame point and shoot compact camera.
Of course these cameras do not come cheap, but they are still somewhat affordable compared to what other camera companies are charging for their top of the line DSLR models, thus making them more accessible to hobbyists who might not necessarily want to spring for the high-end DSLR option.
