As much as we’d like to go to space it’s not really possible to do so unless you happen to have a great deal of money or are lucky enough to be alive one day when space travel becomes as easy as stepping on a flight to New York. There are many other ways you can get your space fix and virtual reality is one of them, 360-degree immersive experiences can go a long way in recreating the magic of space. A company called SpaceVR aims to make VR movies in space to cater to immense demand for visuals from up there.

SpaceVR has launched a campaign on Kickstarter to put this plan into motion, it wants to send a 12-camera rig capable of recording 3D 360-degree video to the International Space Station on the resupply mission scheduled for December.

The camera would then be used to create new footage which will be provided every week, it will only be accessible using a subscription and a virtual reality headset, subscriptions will cost $10 per month. SpaceVR co-founder and CTO Isaac DeSouza says this is like Netflix “except you get to go to space.”

The company aims to raise $500,000 through its Kickstarter campaign in order to pay for the launch costs and the first year of operation. Backers can pledge as little as $1.
