verizon-logo-stone-wallIt looks like Verizon is working hard on a new kind of broadband technology so that consumers will be able to enjoy faster speeds on the Internet – which is something that everyone would definitely want, for sure. After all, it is speculated that this spanking new service is capable of offering customers with download speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second – theoretically speaking, of course, as we do know that real life performance often differs from that which is shown on paper due to numerous factors. In other words, 10 gigabits per second would be 10 times faster compared to Google Fiber, and up to a thousand times speedier as opposed to the average U.S. home Internet connection.

To put things into context, at such speeds, a 2-hour high definition movie would take a mere 8 seconds to complete its download, while a hundred students are able to download a textbook in just two seconds – simultaneously at that, or to upload 1,000 photos in a matter of two seconds.

Verizon also believes that when it builds up its capacity, such new technology can offer consumers dizzying speeds of 40 or even up to 80 gigabits per second. Let me pick my jaw off from the ground first, but for now, we will have to make do with what we have.
