Almost all new vehicles rolling off the production line today feature some sort of connected infotainment system which officially earns them the right to be called as “smart cars,” but what about folks who own cars from the time when there was no such thing as a smart car? Surely they could find it useful to have all of these new features in their car even if it’s an older model, Verizon has a device just for this purpose and it’s called the Hum.

Verizon Hum is basically a bundle which features module that’s connected to the car’s OBD port and a Bluetooth speaker which is clipped to the visor, it doubles as a speakerphone.

It offers some typical features such as the ability to pair a smartphone using Bluetooth and make calls, but there are other features. For example Hum is capable of automatically contacting emergency services if an accident is detected.

Since a module is plugged into the OBD port it provides real-time diagnostics for the car, it can remind you when maintenance is due, makes it easier to locate the car when it’s parked through the Hum app and also provides theft assistance thanks to its onboard GPS.

Customers who are interested in Verizon Hum have to pay $120 for the bundle with which they get a 30-day free trial, once the testing period is over a subscription costs $14.99 per month for the first car and $12.99 for every subsequent car added to the plan, three is the limit.
