Some of us will never cease to be amazed by airplanes, and it’s good to look back at the past to remember some of the most iconic planes that have changed the course of aviation history. Aviation technology has come a long way since World War II but seeing a P-51 Mustang from around the time flying in formation with an F-22 Raptor is just cool on so many levels. The footage has been taken during what’s referred to as a Heritage flight.

The United States Air Force routinely takes part in Heritage flights in which planes from different generations are paired up much more recent counterparts and are then flown in tight formations over the crowd, which obviously loves the sight.

The purpose of these flights is not only to invoke patriotism and respect for the men and women who serve the country but also to show off just how far the Air Force has come in several decades.

Such Heritage flights are routinely flown during airshows but this video is truly unique because it takes advantage of YouTube’s ability to play 360-degree videos, so you can watch it as if you’re sitting inside the cockpit of the P-51 Mustang. On PC the mouse can be used to change different angles, on mobile it only requires a simple swipe.

Do check out the video posted above, it’s certainly a treat to watch.
