For a long time YouTube has displayed a “301+” view count on new videos even if they came from popular creators that quickly rake in thousands of views. It became frustrating for creators to wait for more accurate figures while viewers couldn’t see just how many people had watched that same video. It usually took a while for 301+ to be replaced with a more precise figure but YouTube has now decided to get rid of it completely.

YouTube is going to remove the 301+ view static count for new videos and replace it with more accurate figures. The count on new videos will now display real-time number of views that YouTube is confidence came from real people and not bots.

It’s confident that the real-time figures won’t include plays by bots and that the views will go through a verification process. Buying YouTube views is not hard and many do engage in this practice to artificially boost the view count of their videos. 301+ count was a way for YouTube to be sure about the accuracy of views before it posted an actual figure.

Since it has decided to remove that it shows that YouTube is now more confident in the ability of its systems to differentiate between human plays and bot plays, and while viewers won’t be directly impacted by this change, video creators will easily know how popular their new upload is as soon as it goes live.
