acer-signIn case some of you guys didn’t know, ASUS and Acer and companies from Taiwan. Both companies also happen to be very established names in the computing department. So much so that there have been rumors that Acer and ASUS would merge. However as it turns out the rumors are false.

Acer’s CEO Jason Chen recently refuted the rumors, claiming that by merging, both companies would violate the country’s laws. To be specific, Taiwan has a law which prevents companies from merging if post-merger, they would have a 70% or higher market share. According to Chen, this is exactly what would happen if Acer and ASUS were to merge.

It is possible that the rumors sprung up when last month, Acer’s founder Stan Shih revealed that he was open to the company being bought over. This was by no means a confirmation that there were companies bidding for Acer, but rather an expression of his openness. However Shih did caution that Acer isn’t what it used to be, and that whoever buys them up will be purchasing a shell.

Unlike ASUS, Acer has not been doing too well as of late. They have recently experienced a $90 million loss in the first half of 2015, as they have in the previous years as well.
