Baby monitors are seemingly innocent devices that allow parents to keep an eye and an ear on their sleeping child. However given that more of these devices have started to connect to the internet to allow remote viewing, it also means that they are susceptible to being hacked, as we have seen in a case a couple of years ago.

Now one would think that given the scare, more baby monitor companies would step up their efforts in creating more secure devices, but recent research conducted by a cybersecurity company Rapid7 have found that there are at least seven baby monitors that are still open to potential attacks.

What this means is that if a hacker were so inclined, they could hack your baby monitor to listen in on your child, or if it has a video feed, they could even hack the stream and watch your kid sleep, which is pretty scary and creepy at the same time. According to experts, this is namely due to the fact that there are no standardized security controls in place at the moment, meaning that while one baby monitor could be secure, another might use a different protocol which is less secure.

To prevent unwanted hacking, experts have also warned parents to unplug their devices when not in use, keep passwords changed and secure, and to keep their device’s software up to date at all times.
