Drones are amazing devices. Not only can they be used in photography, videography, or even in rescue efforts (when they’re not hindering them), it would seem that drones could potentially be used to help build all kinds of things in the future. In fact recently over in Switzerland, a demonstration was made in which drones successfully created a rope bridge.

According to a report from Robohub, it seems that this was done using quadcopters along with a motion capture system that helps to provide vehicle positioning and attitude measurements for the drones. There is an offboard computer will run the necessary algorithms which are then sent to the drones.

The ropes used are made of Dyneema rope, which is basically a rope that has a low weight-to-strength ratio. What this means is that not only is the rope strong enough to support someone walking across it, but at the same time it is light enough where drones should have no problems carrying it as a payload.

The process itself is rather mesmerizing to watch, not to mention it also seems like a pretty quick and painless too. To test its strength and construction, they actually had people walk across it in which the bridge held up pretty well. If anything this gives us a glimpse into the future in which drones could aid in the construction of buildings as well.
