smb-easter-eggGoogle is a company that is not afraid to try new things, and they tend to resonate with the latest happenings in and around the world. In fact, Google also have the tendency to introduce Easter eggs which will tie-in to real life events, including seeing its logo change each day during the summer Olympics to signify different events. This time around, Google decided it is time for a virtual character to have its own Easter Egg. Yes sir, the rotund plumber who jumps through pipes and kills reptiles for fun, Mario, has just celebrated the 30th anniversary of the classic video game.

Any search for ‘Super Mario Bros’, ‘Super Mario’, or even ‘Mario Bros’ will see a block with a question mark appear on the search screen. You can then click or tap on it (that depends on whether you are using a tablet, smartphone, or computer), where it will see a coin being collected, along with the now classic ‘ding’ sound effect. It will not give you an extra life when you click on it a hundred times though, which is a bummer. There will be no random occurrences like power ups appearing, which can be a bummer. After all, who wouldn’t want to get a mushroom fall out and roll all over the screen, or a fire flower?
