microsoft logoAs we have said many times in the past, regardless of how good the hardware is for mobile devices, or how slick the operating system is, at the end of the day it also comes down to its ecosystem. Granted we probably will only download a fraction of the apps offered up by developers, but it’s always nice to have options, right?

That being said, it looks like Microsoft has been trucking along just fine. In the latest numbers provided by the Redmond company, they are boasting that there are now 669,000 apps available in the Windows Store that can be downloaded onto phones, tablets, or even computers.

That’s a pretty big number and it would seem that they are starting to close the gap between them and companies like Apple and Google, who according to the latest figures have about 1.5 million and 1.6 million apps in their app stores respectively. However we should note that Microsoft’s numbers cover apps on the PC as well.

This means that they’re looking at a general overview of apps for the Windows platform, so in terms of mobile apps alone, it might be a different story, but those are still pretty impressive figures nonetheless. Windows 10 Mobile has yet to be officially released so maybe then things might start to pick up a bit more.
