With Apple and Google both having a presence in the car why should Microsoft be left out? The company showed off its Windows in the car concept at its Build developers conference last year but still there’s no concrete product out yet for public consumption. The demo did reveal that the project would allow a Windows-powered smartphone’s screen to be mirrored onto a touch-friendly car screen and also mentioned that users will able to control the system through voice, and where voice is concerned Cortana inevitably shows up.

Samuel Shen, CCO at Microsoft Asia-Pacific Research, was speaking at the company’s TechDays event in Taiwan today where he revealed that Microsoft has developed a concept which will project Cortana onto the windshield of a car.

The idea is to enable drivers do a lot more than they can do with existing infotainment systems without having to take their eyes off the road, in theory the Cortana integration will enable drivers to see locations on a virtual map and even make restaurant reservations by simply using voice commands.

Shen said that no products have been launched yet due to “high cost,” but the company is hopeful that it will continue having discussions with Taiwanese partners to explore future possibilities.
