Chances are you probably know someone, or maybe you are that someone who gets motion sickness. Whether it be long-distance car rides or via flying, or maybe even when you play video games. Now wouldn’t it be nice if there was a cure out there that could zap our motion sickness away just like that?

According to the Imperial College of London (via Phandroid), they predict that in the next 5-10 years, motion sickness could be cured by simply sending electrical currents to your brain. The best part is that they also envision a future where it could be our smartphones that deliver that charge to our brains, meaning that we won’t need fancy equipment to rid ourselves of that horrible feeling.

The researchers claim that this will be done by delivering a “small amount of electricity required via the headphone jack. In either case, you would temporarily attach small electrodes to your scalp before traveling – on a cross channel ferry, for example.” This will be applied to the part of your brain responsible for processing motion signals.

How this works is by reducing “the impact of the confusing inputs it is receiving and so prevents the problem that causes the symptoms of motion sickness.” It’s an intriguing idea and a great glimpse into the future where such maladies could be cured via an app, or something close to that.
