smart ev chargerPlug your phone into your charger and it will charge. The same logic applies to your electric car where connecting it to an EV charger will charge your vehicle. While EV chargers are growing in popularity, it seems that over in the University of California, San Diego, they have launched what can only be called next-gen EV chargers.

So what so next-gen about them? For starters electric cars are meant to help reduce pollution and provide a greener ride. So what these next-gen EV chargers do is that they can actually connect to the power grid, and from there they will be able to determine if power is needed elsewhere that might be a priority.

Assuming it does, the charger will not draw upon any power thus allowing the power to be used in such situations, presumably emergencies. These chargers are courtesy of German utility company RWE and apparently they are also the first in the world to be certified for the 2017 global charger standard.

This is a pretty clever system, although admittedly it might be a tad inconvenient for those looking to charge their vehicles quickly. However if you plan on leaving it overnight to charge, or maybe if you are going to be away for the next few hours, then this might not really be that much of an issue.
