A few days back Samsung formally announced the Gear S2 smartwatch which it first teased last month, this is the first smartwatch from Samsung that features a round design. During its keynote at IFA 2015 today Samsung talked more about the wearable device and it revealed that the Gear S2 is going to hit shelves starting next month. Even though it’s powered by Tizen and not Android Wear the device is still going to have support for Android devices.

The smartwatch can be used and paired up with any device that runs Android 4.4 or higher firmware despite the fact that it runs on Tizen, and it doesn’t have to be a device made by Samsung.

Samsung previously did require users to have its smartphones if they wanted to use its smartwatches with it but the company is not enforcing this requirement with the Gear S2 so as to not dissuade potential customers who use devices by other OEMs from picking up the Gear S2 smartwatch.

The company also said today that Gear S2 is going to be released in various markets across the globe starting October, pricing and availability is going to vary by market, in the U.S. all four major carriers are likely to sell this smartwatch aside from Samsung’s retail partners.
