samsung-folding-smartphoneWhen it comes to bendable displays and foldable devices, Samsung seems to have a very keen interest in that area. Just this year alone we saw patents filed by Samsung for foldable devices such as tablets, and now according to another patent filing, Samsung seems to be interested in a foldable smartphone.

While patents aren’t usually a guarantee that they will be turned into actual products, back in May it was reported that Samsung had a device codenamed Project Valley that had a dual-screen foldable display, kind of like what we’re seeing in this particular patent. However the rumors back then suggested that the device was still in the early stages of development.

This means that if you were hoping to see the release of the phone by the end of the year, you could be disappointed. Might we then expect it in 2016? Once again that’s entirely possible, but since Samsung has yet to announce or confirm anything, it’s really up in the air. At the very least the patent does suggest that Samsung is interested in creating such devices.

Whether or not a phone with a foldable display is something that the market would want or need remains to be seen, but what do you guys think? Would a smartphone with a foldable display be of interest to you? Or would it be considered more as a novel feature?
