While most of us enjoy watching pro basketball like the NBA, we’re probably realistic enough to believe that we might never actually get to play for the NBA. However that does not mean that even when playing amongst friends or colleagues we should not strive to become a better player, right?

Now if you’re looking to step up your basketball game, sporting goods company Wilson has recently taken the wraps off a smart basketball in the form of the Wilson X Connected Basketball. Smart sporting goods aren’t exactly new, but it’s nice to see that there are more options becoming available as the technology starts to hit the mainstream.

The Wilson X Connected Basketball will come with an embedded sensor and thanks to an accompanying iOS app (it’s exclusive to iOS for now), it will be able to sense the kind of shots you make. The app will also come with various modes for shooting drills, a Buzzer Beater mode, and will even come with crowd noise and audio from sports commentators, making it feel like you’re really in a game.

The ball does not need charging, thankfully, and according to Wilson, it will last you up to 100,000 shots. There will also be scoreboards where you can keep tabs on your friends as well as share your own shots. It will be priced at $199 and will be available in either a 29.5-inch official size or a 28.5-inch intermediate size.
