Acer isn’t a name you associate with all-terrain vehicles, it’s a name that’s commonly known for consumer electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, laptops and other similar products. The company is expanding its horizons though, it has rather quietly unveiled the “X Terran,” it’s an all-terrain vehicle that runs on nothing but electricity.

The company unveiled its X Terran prototype at the eCarTech conference in Munich last week, it didn’t go into too many details about the product, and pictures of the prototype have surfaced just now giving us our first look at Acer’s electric ATV.

MPS Energy is a new subsidiary that Acer created earlier this year to expand its interests in the field of mobile power and vehicle electricity, the company has also said that it’s putting resources towards the development of a battery management system for smart cars, focusing on “green and connected car technology.”

Acer has teamed up with indie design outfit Studio X-Gene to create the X Terran, it doesn’t much to do with the design but MPS Energy’s battery management technology is a feather in its cap. The system combines three battery packs with a motherboard, each pack has 256 18650 lithium-ion batteries that provide 8.7kWh of power.

The company hasn’t said as yet if and when the X Terran will hit the market, and how much it will ask for the ATV once it does arrive in the market.
