Apple has already announced its earnings for the third quarter and while the company revealed how many million iPhones and iPad it sold over the previous quarter it didn’t going into quite as much detail about the Apple Watch, the one truly new product that it has released in a few years. There have been multiple reports which suggest that the Apple Watch is performing better than most smartwatches, with latest data from Strategy Analytics showing that the company sold 4.6 million units of the Apple Watch in the previous quarter.

According to data collected by the research firm Apple sold 4.5 million units of its first smartwatch between July and September 2015.

It merits mentioning here that the report claims these units were sold to customers, and not shipped to retailers, where they might still be sitting on shelves. That’s an important distinction to keep in mind but so far there has been no confirmation from Apple on the number of units that it has sold.

The report puts Samsung in second place with just 600,000 units sold of its wearable device, it doesn’t say which wearable device, whether the figure only accounts for sales of the Gear S, Gear 2 or Gear Fit. However the figure doesn’t include sales of the Gear S2 which went on sale a few weeks back, Strategy Analytics says that it has the potential to match the Apple Watch’s performance in the wearable device market.
