Last year AT&T began working on a sponsored data program which would have allowed companies to pay the carrier so that usage on their services would not count against a user’s monthly data allotment. That program has now pivoted into something the carrier is calling Data Perks. Simply put, it’s a new initiative on AT&T’s part which will give users free data if they do mundane tasks like taking surveys, watching ads, etc.

Users have to complete offers to get the free data when can then be transferred to the monthly allotment. Those AT&T customers who sign up for Data Perks now will receive 25MB of free data to start, that’s not going to get you anywhere though.

Come to think of it, if you don’t go crazy with the offers you might not see any value in doing what’s required to be done in Data Perks. Most offers only provide 25MB of data, 50MB at most, there are better options but they will require you to purchase or subscribe to something from a participating company.

Each offer requires multiple steps and it’s not like the free data arrives immediately, there’s some wait involved before the transaction is approved and a nugget of free data is received. These nuggets can be saved within the app, up to 1,000MB, before they’re transferred to the monthly allotment. Bear in mind that data obtained through Data Perks will expire at the end of the billing cycle, it won’t rollover at the end of the month like data you actually pay for does.
