Many of you might be aware by now that Beats was acquired by Apple, the company not only got its music streaming service but it also got the lucrative hardware business which churns out expensive headphones, speakers and earphones. Apple decided to keep Beats hardware around and not to rebrand its products, and today Beats launched its first new speaker since joining the fruit company. As can be expected from any of the company’s products the Beats Pill+ isn’t exactly cheap.

Beats Pill+ is a Bluetooth enabled speaker that can wirelessly connect to mobile devices for the purpose of blasting music, it’s smaller than the Pill XL but slightly larger than the original Beats Pill speaker.

The company has made some changes to the design as well, it’s no longer a completely round shape like a pill instead there’s now a flat panel around the middle of the speaker. This change makes it much easier for users to access the volume and power buttons located up top.

It includes a pair each of custom-designed woofers and tweeters inside, the company says that the speaker is good for 12 hours of music playback on a single charge, and that it can be charged to full in just three hours.

A new companion app has been released as well which enables multiple mobile devices to link up with the Pill+ allowing more than one person to control the playlist, it also lets users add a second Pill+ to create a stereo setup with left and right channels.

Beats Pill+ is going to be available for purchase next month from Apple retail stores and other retailers for $230.
