This isn’t a joke, no it’s not April 1, this actually happened. Ukraine’s Internet Party is kept things lively during the elections last week, it has fielded a candidate for mayor in Odessa that’s affiliated to this party who actually has Darth Vader as his real name. A man dressed as Chewbacca, a character from a franchise that most of us are quite familiar with, was campaigning illegally for Vader and was thus arrested for the offense.
Chewbacca was arrested in Ukraine yesterday, he’s reportedly accused of violating a law that prohibits campaigning for a candidate on election day. Full marks to the man inside the suit for sticking to his guns, he even appeared in court dressed as Chewbacca.
According to RT Chewbacca had to pay a fine equivalent to $7.50 but he may need some help with that, because he told the media that he can’t pay the fine because “his funds are an intergalactic bank that has no branches on this planet,” I kid you not.
A quick search for Ukraine’s Internet Party reveals that the political party has actually fielded multiple candidates for office that are also named Darth Vader, it even has a history of launching campaigns that are based on Star Wars. One thing’s for sure, they got my vote!
