Over time Twitter has added several features to the micro-blogging service that enable users to interact with live TV shows, this has been an area of focus for the company and now it’s going to get some competition. Facebook has now made it much easier for its users to interact with live TV shows, it’s going to offer broadcasters a new range of tools that will allow them to easily increase engagement with their viewers.

The tools aren’t that different from what Twitter offers, they’re geared towards encouraging and tracking engagement from viewers during live shows.

For example Facebook has developed a voting app and polling tools for broadcasters which they can embed in comments and posts, this makes it much easier for viewers to voice their opinions about what they want to say about TV shows, award shows and sporting events.

It has also created another tool which lets networks compile photo and video submissions from viewers and easily surface the best viewer-submitted content for broadcast, there are even custom icons that call viewer’s attention towards content related to programming.

It will take some time before major broadcasters take up these new tools and improve the engagement experience for viewers, but it will happen nonetheless.
