Facebook-NotifyA couple of months ago it was rumored that Facebook was working on a new app that would be able to deliver breaking news to users and inform them of it via notifications. Now thanks to the folks at The Awl, it seems that they have recently gotten their hands on some screenshots of the upcoming app which apparently will be called Notify.

As the name suggests, this app will deliver notifications to users whenever a new story by their chosen publication has been published. As you can see in the screenshot above, users will be able to select from several different publications and choose which ones they want to hear from, at least that way they won’t be spammed by notifications all day.

It has also been reported that Facebook is currently in talks with several publications on how to best go around pushing out said notifications. After all to notify users every single time a story has been published could be rather annoying, so the discussions are said to be trying to decide what an appropriate number of notifications would be.

The screenshots also reveal that we will be treated to Twitter-like blurbs in the notifications themselves, meaning that at a glance we should know what the story is about so if you don’t have time to read it in full, that’s OK. No word on when Notify will be officially released, but judging from this it looks like it’s getting pretty close.
