As you all have heard, Google is working on a sequel to its Glass wearable. This is following the failure of the original Glass headset in which Google stated that they did not anticipate the hype and did not manage it properly, so here’s hoping that Google gets it right the second time around.

The features of its successor still remains shrouded in mystery, but last we heard it could be designed to be more fashionable, and now thanks to a recently discovered patent, it has been suggested that augmented holograms could be part of the Glass sequel’s features. According to the patent, it suggests how CGI could be introduced to the display of the headset.

Ultimately this would result in a headset very much like Microsoft’s HoloLens. While we suppose this does seem like a long shot given that patents don’t necessarily result in actual products, there is more evidence to support this theory, such as Google’s investment into an augmented reality startup called Magic Leap.

In a statement issued by Google to TechCrunch, “We hold patents on a variety of ideas – some of those ideas later mature into real products or services, some don’t. Prospective product announcements should not necessarily be inferred from our patents.” That being said the idea of introducing augmented reality to the Glass sequel isn’t that much of a stretch, but what say you?
