The aim with the latest Google Maps update is to “make stressful times easier,” which it most certainly will, as you are now able to add detours to your route in Google Maps. The update has been announced today and it will be rolling out to all users over the next few weeks. Simply put this will allow you to add multiple stops along your journey without resetting the final destination, so it’s less time fumbling with the smartphone and more spare time to make those stops along the way.

The latest update brings a host of information to Maps, when you’re in navigation just tap on the magnifying glass at the top right corner and you’ll see a drop-down menu which has options like gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores and more along your way.

You can then choose your pick from those options depending upon the errand you want to run on the way, whether it’s filling up your tank at a station where gas is just that little bit cheaper, yes Maps will show gas prices too, or picking up some milk on the way home.

Google says that this new update is going to be released first for Android over the next few weeks, it goes without saying that this feature will eventually be making its way to the iOS app as well.
