In a very short span of time Xiaomi went on to become the top smartphone vendor in China even though it competed against the likes of Apple and Samsung in one of the most lucrative markets on the planet. As they say though, what goes up must come down. Latest data from a research company shows that Huawei dethroned Xiaomi as the top smartphone market in China in the third quarter, during this period Xiaomi sall its shipments decline as opposed to the same time last year.

Xiaomi is known for making handsets that are very competitively priced, the company started off by only shipping units in China but later expanded to nearby markets such as India. Xiaomi has reiterated that it intends to bring its devices to the United States at some point in the future.

On the other hand Huawei is already better established in Asia as well as Europe and the United States so it has a very significant base to play with. In China alone the company’s shipments are believed to have surged by 81 percent in the third quarter. This monumental increase was all the company needed to shoot past Xiaomi and become the largest smartphone maker in China.

Huawei also scored a win with the Nexus 6P, the very first Nexus smartphone it collaborated on with Google, if Xiaomi wants to come up to the big stage it’s going to have to release its devices in the West. Only then can the two truly duke it out on the global stage.
