nexus 5x cableThinking that you can use some of your old chargers with the brand new Nexus 5X? Or maybe you’re the type that prefers plugging into the computer to charge? If you said yes to any of these questions, you might be out of luck. As spotted by the folks at Phandroid, it seems that Nexus 5X will only be bundled with a USB Type-C to Type-C cable.

There will be a bundled USB Type-C charger, of course, but this means that if you were hoping to plug it into your computer to transfer files, or use existing cables, you’d be out of luck. This is because USB Type-C to Type-C means that on both ends of the cable, it will be the USB Type-C head versus the USB Type-C to USB Standard-A cable.

We suppose since Type-C is expected to become the new standard in the future, this move makes sense. However since there are probably plenty of users out there whose computers don’t feature Type-C ports, unless you have bought Apple’s brand new 12-inch Retina MacBook, plugging your phone into your computer will be difficult.

That being said, Google is selling a USB Type-C to USB Standard-A cable for an extra $13 if you absolutely have to have the connection. In the meantime, it looks like Huawei’s Nexus 6P will not have that problem as the company will be shipping an extra cable, but if you’re thinking of getting the Nexus 5X, this is something to take into consideration when you place your order.
