htc-first-discontinued-attYou guys might recall that a couple of years ago, Facebook and HTC teamed up for the Facebook phone called the HTC First. It wasn’t a very impressive handset to begin with, but the main selling point was that it came with several dedicated Facebook features and came with Facebook Home preinstalled.

It wasn’t long before the phone was discounted to $0.99, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that Facebook is no longer interested in making another Facebook phone. This is according to Dave Marcus, Facebook’s Vice President of Messaging products who said that the social network will “probably not” be making another smartphone.

It is unclear if this means that the possibility is open or if it means that they will never, ever consider another phone again, but given how badly Facebook-branded phones have fallen flat on their faces, we doubt that will be happening anytime soon. We suppose things could change in the future but for now if you want a Facebook phone, you’re out of luck.

However we suppose Facebook doesn’t really need a phone. The company’s products like Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram are reportedly dominating the time one spend on their phone – 25% according to Marcus, so even if Facebook doesn’t make another phone, they’ve pretty much got the mobile market already in their hands.
