Earlier this year we reported on the Nyrius Smart Outlet, a Kickstarter project for a power outlet that basically turns any device you connect to it into a “smart” one that can be controlled via a smartphone app. It looks like the Kickstarter project was a success and in case you haven’t been keeping up with it, fret not because the Nyrius Smart Outlet is now available for purchase.

The device is priced at $39.99 each so if you do plan on connecting more than one object, you will have to buy a few more. This could eventually add up to quite a hefty sum, but we reckon it might potentially be cheaper than having to buy completely new smart appliances, but at the end of the day we suppose only you can decide if it’s money well-spent.

For those who are learning about the Nyrius Smart Outlet for the first time, the device works more or less the same to the Belkin WeMo and other similar products. It plugs into your regular power outlet in which it draws power from, and users then plug their appliances to the Smart Outlet like you normally would.

Once it is connected, users can then connect to their appliance via a smartphone app in which they can turn the device on/off, set schedules, or if you are using smart bulbs it can even turn them on/off when you’re in range. For more details check out the video above, and to purchase it hit up Nyrius’ website.
